Halfway to Forth

Contemporary Folk/Roots

Halfway to Forth are brothers Dan & Kyle Lizotte. If you head up past the old steam railway, over the river and round the bend you’ll arrive at their family home, about halfway along the road to a little town called Forth on the NW coast of Tasmania, Australia.

Their music is honest and rootsy, with folk, country and blues shades. These boys attend both schools, Old and New, and stick to writing what they know.  You’ll hear more than a little foot stompin’, banjo pluckin’ and bottle neck slidin’.

Live in Concert at South Coast Folk Club

  • Hunt Park

Halfway to Forth blend different styles of roots music into their own brand of earthy, homegrown and honest song-writing. Brothers Dan & Kyle deliver tight vocal harmonies, banjo driven ballads & toe tapping grooves for all ages. They take their name from the location of their family home, nestled in the hills, surrounded by rich farmland just outside of Devonport on the North coast of Tasmania. November 2009 saw their debut release, a 7 track EP entitled "Treasure for Memories". They've since kept busy with a move to Adelaide in early 2010, followed by extensive gigging in their new state while also playing a number of festivals and shows around Australia. The guys are getting homesick and will be moving back to Tassie after this concert, so don't miss your chance to see them!

"... with sublime skill and ‘hair on the back of the neck raising’ vocal harmonies, the brothers Dan and Kyle Lizotte slip into the occasional brotherly banter in between songs – but nothing disguises the genuine regard they have for each other, and nothing in the way of song writing ability is hidden from the audience. Folk, folk rock, country, R&B, rock, blues, pop and gospel – the influences are wide and strong – and we all loved it" ... Dave Greenslade - Fernies

Special guest act at this concert is much-loved duo Andy and Marta.

Frances Folk Gathering

  • Frances Folk Gathering

Frances Folk Gathering is a small and very special event in the folk calendar.

On the last weekend of February each year the tiny village of Frances on the Victorian/South Australian border opens its doors and hearts to folk lovers: musicians, dancers, artists and appreciators.

The essence of Frances is participation. It is the festival you’re in, not just at. Everyone contributes to the fun and entertainment, young and old, beginners and experienced performers, the well-known, the never heard of and, sometimes, the infamous. A particular focus of the Gathering is futurefolk - involving and nurturing young folk artists and up-and-coming talent.

For musicians, open mics run all weekend in various venues. There are scheduled sessions, circles, serious and silly competitions, and workshops throughout the program as well as informal circles, busking and jamming just about everywhere. There is an art exhibition where artists are welcome to exhibit and art lovers can peruse and purchase art. For dancers, the dance program offers a variety of lively dances and workshops throughout the Gathering.

Frances is a true gathering of people - making and celebrating folk arts together - and the spirit of Frances has a cheeky, wonderful and unique magic to it.

TRINITY SESSIONS PRESENTS IN INTIMATE CONCERT MODE THE LAUNCH OF SHANE HOWARD’S 13th ALBUM

Music 6pm Doors 5.30pm.
Guests HALFWAY TO FORTH

Just like the sky and waters of the Great Southern Ocean, where Shane Howard was raised and resides, his 13th solo album, ‘Deeper South’, features songs full of music and poetry that are deep and dark yet illuminated by great shafts of light.
Featuring new songs written by Howard, ‘Deeper South’ is a musical postcard from ‘the edge of the world’ - the unique southern coast ofAustralia.
For this self produced album, Howard was joined in his home studio by long term musical friends John Hudson (Guitar, Dobro), Ewen Baker (Fiddle, Mandolin) and Ruben Shannon (Acoustic Bass).
Shane’s anthemic song, Solid Rock, from the album, Spirit of Place (1982), recorded with his band Goanna, was written after a moving experience at an inma at Uluru in 1981. It has since passed into folklore and the Australian psyche. He pushed on, beyond commercial success, tirelessly pursuing an artist’s journey, in order to make sense of the story of a ‘whitefella’ in an Aboriginal country.
His songs have been recorded by numerous artists as diverse as Ireland's Mary Black and Australia's John Farnham and Troy Cassar-Daley. He has spent much of his musical life working with Aboriginal musicians, as well as touring Ireland and forging Irish-Australian connections. Shane has been a producer for the Pigram Brothers, Street Warriors, Mary Black, Archie Roach and the soundtrack for the Jimmy Chi musical, Corrugation Road. He’s a founding member of the celebrated Black Arm Band.

The Porch Session w/ Shaun Kirk & Alice Haddy

  • Secret Garden

That Bluesfest babe is headed our way. That's right, Shaun Kirk is headed to a secret Adelaide garden to be filled with wine, fairy lights and magnificent vibes.

Another installment of The Porch Sessions is unleashed in Adelaide. Just as the summer nights start creeping in and the christmas lights start donning the porches of the suburbs, Mr Shaun Kirk is bringing a little something of his own to the season.

The Bluesfest mult-instrumentalist and songwriting troubador promises to bring a visual spectacle just as much as his musical melodies will delight all who hear. His blues and soul juices will seep through the crowd all summer night long as a local Adelaide clever cats will be serving up the finest delacassies in all the land, to be paired with lovely drops of wine, washed down with some cool beers and ciders all tied together with a cupcake and a comfy spot on a persian rug.

We transform people's gardens for a living, washing them with a cascade of colour, draping them with fairy lights, bunting and bohemian fabrics whilst rolling out carpets, cushions and beanbags all for a glorious night of music in Adelaide Suburbia.

So don't wait. Initiate my little porchlings.

Alex Watts - 'Sing, Strum & Strut' EP Launch (ADL) w/ The Timbers, Halfway to Forth & The Skeleton Club

  • Rhino Room

Alex Watts has announced that he will be launching his new EP, Sing, Strum & Strut, with a nine-show tour around the country this August and September.

Having spent much of 2013 touring Australia and the UK as a solo artist, this EP was put together to showcase the quieter moments that typify an Alex Watts solo show, a sound that differs greatly from the more expansive sonics of his currently eight-piece band the Foreign Tongue (featuring members of Oh MercyEagle and the Worm and The Hello Morning).

Watts has been earning himself a reputation as one of the most exciting songwriters to come out of Melbourne in the last few years. Whether solo or backed by the Foreign Tongue, Watts’ unique blend of rock & pop draws from the wit of Elvis Costello, the swagger of Joe Strummer, and the grit and raw emotion of 1960’s RnB.

Backed by Steven Clifford of The Hello Morning, Alex Watts will be bringing the tour to Adelaide's Rhino Room on August 16th. It's going to "rock".

WINTER WONDERLAND with BRIAN RUIZ AND THE NATIVES, HALFWAY TO FORTH, THE TIMBERS

TRINITY SESSIONS PRESENTS THE THIRD IN ITS WINTER SERIES: WINTER WONDERLAND. Doors open 4.30pm Music at 5.00pm
The venue will be transformed in to a wonderland of music. Catering by Little Seeds Catering Co again for some special winter treats along with our bar.
Having played together around Adelaide in numerous other outfits, BRIAN RUIZ & THE NATIVES have brought together their like minded Soul & Funk Grooves to share their love of the music and to get people moving their feet!! Lead singer Brian Ruiz is a man who sings from the soul. His Honey Husked vocals have shared the stage with Jimmy Barnes, Diesel, Paul Kelly and countless others and has toured nationally and internationally with the bands Kaha, Fruit, New White Sneakers and The Huckleberry Swedes.
HALFWAY TO FORTH are brothers Dan & Kyle Lizotte. If you head up past the old steam railway, over the river and round the bend you’ll arrive at their family home, about halfway along the road to a little town called Forth on the NW coast ofTasmania,Australia. You’ll hear more than a little foot stompin’, banjo pluckin’ and bottle neck slidin’
http://www.halfwaytoforth.com/
THE TIMBERS’ thumping rhythms and big misty mountain melodies will cast you away to the sweaty, smoky, melting-pot of roots, folk, and celtic bushman brassy punk. Their style has a distinctive alternative folk flavor reminiscent of musical influences such as The Pogues, Graveyard Train, Of Monsters and Men, and Mumford and Sons. Their raucous live performances, relevance and musicianship gives them the drive and determination to aspire to the accomplishment of those mentioned as muses. Their instrumentation sets them apart from most other young acts featuring banjo, trumpet, mandolin, acoustic guitars, trombone, 4 part vocal harmony and an array of instruments played with feet.
